Polish Police Arrest Nigerian Man Wanted In US for ‘$7m Cyber Fraud’

An unnamed Nigerian man who is wanted in the US has been arrested by the Polish police.

The suspect is accused of cyber fraud and extortion worth an estimated $7 million.

The Polish police central bureau of investigation said the 27-year-old Nigerian was tracked down in the southwestern city of Wroclaw.

In a communique released on Wednesday, the bureau said an arrest warrant was circulated for the alleged fraudster.

The police raid which took the suspect by surprise was “made possible by the cooperation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Interpol,” the communique said.

The suspect is accused of “banking fraud, extortion and theft of online banking access data”.

He will remain under arrest pending extradition to the US, the report said.

In April, the US department of justice sentenced Samson Olugbenga Oyekunle, a 34-year-old Nigerian man resident in Houston, to 63 months in federal prison for his involvement in numerous business email compromise (BEC) schemes.

Oyekunle pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud on October 6, 2017.

  1. He must have been very stupid and naïve to think that America would not find him. If you like, dig a hole and hide there, America would find you. Their patience surpasses that of the vulture. He should have asked Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden’s families. Even if you’ve been dead for long and rotten, they would find your skeleton and confirm it’s you before they hand off your case. Perhaps the legal penalties passed down to these criminals after conviction in the law courts are not stiff enough to serve as deterrent.
