Osun Seals Globacom over N532m Unpaid Tax……..THIS DAY

imagesOsun State Government has sealed off Globacom Communication office in Osogbo and its four base stations in the state over unpaid tax amounting to N532million.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the State Internal Revenue Service (OSIRS), Mr. Dayo Oyebanji and his team carried out the operation during a visit to the office in Osogbo.

Oyebanji noted that the action was aimed at ensuring remittance of all the outstanding tax due to the state adding that the revenue agency had already secured warrant from the Osun State High Court against the Globacom Company to carry out the closure.

While effecting the court order, Oyebanji accompanied with security agencies ordered workers of the communication outfit out as the agency officials padlocked the office located at Fakunle Area of Osogbo, Osun State. Addressing the Reporters shortly after the sealing, Oyebanji noted that the revenue agency had tried all possible efforts to resolve the matter amicably in the last two years but Globacom had refused to yield to the calls of the agency.

Oyebanji added that the State House of Assembly intervened in the matter by inviting Globacom whose representatives promised to remit the outstanding tax liabilities within two weeks without fulfilling the promises.

The Chairman of the revenue boss who lamented that while other individual and corporate bodies had been voluntarily complying with the payment of tax, management of Globacom had failed to show any sign of voluntary compliance, said further that the company has failed to obtain relevant approval for laying of fibre optics in line with the State’s relevant regulation on physical and urban planning.

He explained that the company would not be re-opened until the company remitted all the outstanding tax to the coffer of the state.

“Before this time, the state government had been lenient with the Globacom because of the importance of their business to both the people and the government. We engaged them in series of meetings with the assistance of House Committee on Communication but we are yet to get reasonable response from the company.

“It is only the Globacom Limited that we are sealing because others especially those invited by the assembly have responded to our calls.

“It is only the Globacom that has not shown up. They are given one excuse or the other”, they explained.
