Nigerian Billionaire Wale Babalakin Readies Lagos Airport Terminal For Flight Across Africa

Nigerian billionaire and businessman Wale Babalakin is preparing to open Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) to regional flights across Africa, following the resolution of a nearly 20-year dispute with the Federal Government.

Babalakin, chairman of Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, recently inspected newly developed regional arrivals facilities, an extended aircraft parking apron and a new access gate for staff and concession holders. The company is working with government agencies and aviation regulators to complete the necessary inspections and approvals before regional operations begin. However, it has not yet announced the commencement date, participating airlines or the routes to be served.

The development follows a settlement signed on October 20, 2026, between Bi-Courtney, the Federal Government, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and Stabilini Visinoni Limited. Under the agreement, Bi-Courtney relinquished its claim to about ₦132 billion in court-awarded damages and gave up its exclusive rights over domestic airport operations in Lagos. In return, it secured permission to expand MMA2 and handle regional flights within Africa, subject to the terminal’s capacity. The move could create new opportunities for regional connectivity and strengthen MMA2’s role in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
