FACT CHECK: Osimhen Has Not Been Banned By FIFA For ‘Failing Drug Test’

A viral post on social media claims Victor Osimhen, Super Eagles striker, violated FIFA’s anti-drug policy and was sanctioned with a lengthy ban.

The post, shared by @boutmoney112, has garnered over 386.2k views on X with over 1,500 likes.

The X user claimed that the Super Eagles striker was handed a 25-game suspension for the supposed drug use while warning Nigerian celebrities to abstain from drugs.

“Victor Osimhen has been suspended for 25 games for violating FIFA’s anti-drug policy. Nigerian celebrities should stop using drũgs,” the post reads.

Osimhen is the second leading goalscorer for the Nigerian men’s national team and the most expensive Nigerian footballer in history.

He emphasised his importance to the Eagles during the last two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he led the team to two consecutive podium finishes. Second in AFCON held in Cote d’Ivoire and bronze medal in Morocco.

The 27-year-old is equally important to Galatasaray, which shattered the Turkish transfer record to sign him for €75 million last summer. He had spent a season on loan with the club, helping them win both league and cup double.
