INCIDENT REPORT
Attempted Vehicle Theft and Suspected Food Poisoning/Drugging of Resident
Date of Incident: 12/06/2026
Location: Ivory Manor Apartments, 12th Street.
1. Incident Summary
At approximately 9:30PM on 12 June 2026, the Halogen Supervisor on duty, Mr. Benjamin Terlumun, received a distress call from the security guard at Ivory Manor Apartments, 12th Street, regarding a suspected attempt to remove a resident’s vehicle from the estate under suspicious circumstances.
The vehicle involved was a new model Toyota Land Cruiser 600 belonging to Mr. Tunji Kazeem, a resident of Ivory Manor Apartments.
2. Initial Response
Upon receiving the report, the Supervisor immediately alerted the Patrol Team, who responded to the location.
On arrival, the patrol team met Mr. Tunji’s chef, later identified as Matthew Akinkpa, and another individual identified as Joseph Hounza. The two men were attempting to take the resident’s vehicle out of the premises & had informed the security guard that they had been instructed by Mr. Tunji to pick up his sister from the airport.
The security guard requested to speak directly with Mr. Tunji before allowing the vehicle to leave the premises. During the interaction, one of the suspects handed a phone to the security guard, claiming Mr. Tunji was on the line. However, the security guard became suspicious as the voice did not appear to be that of the resident and therefore insisted on speaking with Mr. Tunji directly.
3. Discovery of Resident’s Condition
Upon arrival, the Patrol Team also insisted on verifying the instruction directly with the resident. Due to the inability of the suspects to facilitate direct communication with Mr. Tunji, security personnel proceeded to the resident’s apartment.
Mr. Tunji was found lying unconscious on the floor of his room. Several attempts to wake him were unsuccessful. Based on the circumstances, security personnel suspected that the resident may have been drugged and immediately escalated the situation.
The suspects, Matthew Akinkpa and Joseph Hounza, were prevented from leaving the premises and placed under observation pending further investigation.
4. Medical Intervention
The property owner, Mr. Akintayo (as disclosed), and representatives of Aksego Security Services, the security company responsible for Ivory Manor Apartments, were contacted and responded promptly.
Mr. Tunji was immediately taken to First Cardiology Consultants (FCC) for urgent medical attention.
5. Police Involvement
While being questioned at the scene, both suspects allegedly admitted that a substance had been added to Mr. Tunji’s shawarma meal, although the exact substance remains subject to medical confirmation.
They further stated that their intention was to steal Mr. Tunji’s vehicle.
Both suspects were subsequently handed over to officers at Ikoyi Police Station. Members of Mr. Tunji’s family also arrived at the station and joined efforts to ensure the matter was thoroughly investigated.
6. Follow-Up Investigation – 13/06/2026
Today, a follow-up visit was made to Ikoyi Police Station, where discussions were held with the IPO, Inspector Tope, in the presence of the two suspects.
During interrogation, it was gathered that the suspects had allegedly devised a plan to gain unauthorized access to the resident’s premises. According to statements obtained, Matthew Akinkpa requested permission from Mr. Tunji to leave the estate to purchase an item. However, he reportedly remained within the estate and instructed Joseph Hounza to make use of the access granted by Mr. Tunji.
It was further alleged that when Mr. Tunji contacted the estate gate to facilitate access for his chef, Joseph Hounza impersoned Matthew Akinkpa. This enabled him to gain entry to the resident’s premises without raising suspicion.
Investigations also revealed that Matthew Akinkpa had only commenced employment with Mr. Tunji approximately one week prior to the incident.
7. Hospital Visit and Resident’s Statement
Following the visit to the police station, a visit was made to First Cardiology Consultants (FCC) Hospital together with the IPO and members of the investigation team.
Access was granted to see Mr. Tunji, who was accompanied by family members. According to his relatives, he had regained consciousness earlier that afternoon but initially had little recollection of the events leading to his hospitalization.
During the visit, Mr. Tunji recognized members of the Estate Security Team and gradually began to recall certain details. He stated that on the evening of the incident, his chef prepared a shawarma meal for him. While eating, he complained that the shawarma appeared unusually salty and contained excessive ingredients.
Shortly after consuming the meal, he reportedly began to feel unusually weak and dizzy. He stated that his vision became blurred and that he could not remember anything further until regaining consciousness in the hospital.
Mr. Tunji expressed shock upon learning the circumstances surrounding the incident and the alleged involvement of his chef.
8. Current Status
A. Mr. Tunji is receiving medical care and has regained consciousness.
B. The two suspects, Matthew Akinkpa and Joseph Hounza, remain in police custody at Ikoyi Police Station.
C. Police investigations are ongoing.
D. The exact substance allegedly administered to the resident has not yet been confirmed and remains subject to medical examination.
9. Observation
The vigilance, professionalism, and adherence to established security procedures displayed by the security guard at Ivory Manor Apartments, supported by the swift response of the Estate Patrol Team, played a critical role in preventing the suspected theft of the resident’s vehicle and facilitating the timely rescue of the resident.
The incident highlights the importance of strict verification procedures and serves as a commendable example of proactive security intervention. Had the security personnel relied solely on the information provided by the suspects, the vehicle could have been removed from the estate before the resident’s condition was discovered.
