The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) says it has disbursed N1.33 billion to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a statement on Friday, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFund director of communication, said N1.33 billion was released to UNILAG on January 19 in line with the approved disbursement schedule for the academic session.
Oluwatuyi said the funds will cover 6,308 eligible UNILAG students who met all requirements under the student loan programme.
She noted that the beneficiary lists were generated from verified institutional data submitted during the application and validation process.
Oluwatuyi clarified that after the disbursement, beneficiaries are to register and access their academic activities without delay.
She added that NELFund will ensure timely application of funds to students’ accounts and promote clear communication to avoid misinformation.
She assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure that no eligible student is disadvantaged in the process and also advised students to contact their institutions’ bursary or student affairs offices for clarification.
Last week, Mustapha Iyal, NELFund director of operation, said all students who owed arrears under the scheme would soon receive their payments.
Iyal revealed that over 11,000 students were experiencing the delay, totalling about N927.98 million.
He said the delay was caused by technical and operational issues, adding that plans are on for an expansion in the 2026–2027 academic session.
Iyal said the backlog of applicants increased due to various issues, including the application process or students’ unseriousness.
