The Times: Ban Doesn’t Necessarily Mean End of The Ride For Uber

Uber is unlikely to vanish from the UK any time soon despite a controversial decision to ban the US ride-hailing app from the streets of London.

The company was told this morning that its licence to operate in the capital — its biggest market in Europe — would not be renewed because of fundamental safety concerns.

Transport for London (TfL) said that a series of flaws had been found in the company’s app, which allows drivers to pick up passengers and members of the public to request a ride. It said that unauthorised drivers had been able to log into the app using other drivers’ accounts in late 2018 and early 2019, with at least 14,000 trips made in this way in just a few…
