By Collins Osuji, Owerri

National President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) and wife of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Hajia Hajara Usman Alkali Baba, has sought improved welfare for the wives of officers of the Nigeria Police force.

She made the call, yesterday, during a two-day working visit to the Imo State Police Commissioner, CP Rabiu Hussaini and appealed for provision of more facilities in police schools and construction of skill acquisition centres for the wives and children of police officers in the state.

She said such provisions would help to boost the morale of officers and their wives, as well as enable them to continually contribute significantly to the overall development of Imo State and the entire country.

“We have brought this visit, as a wakeup call to Imo state POWA. Furthermore, we have come to appreciate the efforts of our husbands to end all hindrances to the growth and development of the country

“While soliciting your support by entrenching the activities of POWA in Imo State, we appeal that you strengthen the infrastructure in police schools across the state,” she stated.

Responding, Hussaini applauded the POWA boss and her entourage for the visit and assured of continued support for the wellbeing of members and activities, especially in the state.

“I am happy that this visit will enlighten the POWA women and ensure that they remain abreast and in tune with happenings in society. It will go a long way in alleviating the poor living conditions of our women, especially the widows.

“It will also give them a sense of belonging and purposeful living. Your empowerment programmes are laudable and I am happy the command’s POWA women will be blessed. I assure you of our commitment in ensuring that POWA is taken to the next level,” she added.
