Is it okay for you and i to take a quick pause to look back at your journey thus far and be like Miriam for today? Let us leave Moses out of todays matter, today o i don’t want to be like Moses. Let me tell you why
The first recorded songs in the Bible was a victory song, it was sung immediately after GOD parted the Red Sea and allowed the children of Israel to cross over on dry ground, escaping Pharaoh’s army.
Just try to imagine that moment first.
These people whose eyes had seen pepper and shege promax, now finally crossed over to leave. They left behind the mighty red sea that once stood between them and freedom. The red sea opened up, and they didn’t even have to swim across it. They used their own legs to walk across on dry land.
Pharaoh’s army was no longer chasing them, like play, like play they were never going back to the slave camp.
This was not audio freedom o, they were free!
Then Moses led the men of Israel in this song to the LORD:
I will sing to the LORD for HE has triumphed gloriously;
HE has hurled both horse and rider into the sea. Exodus 15:1
So Moses and his gender ‘sang to the LORD’, issokay, i have heard o, but Miriam is my role model today abeg, because she did something interesting that is hungrying me to do.
Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, pulled out a tambourine and led all the women as they played their tambourines and danced.
And Miriam sang this song….
Ex 15:1,20
While the Bible doesn’t say that Moses was doing a quiet, solemn colorless rendition of the song while Miriam suddenly turned the place into The Owambe, allow me and my imagination, because me I can see Miriam with that Ṣẹ̀kẹ̀rẹ̀!
I am She, She is me, I stand with Miriam!
Homegirl refused to keep quiet or hold herself, this is not the moment to be touché and classy,
It was the exact same song that Moses sang, but there was something deeply personal about her own version of this victory song of praise.
Miriam’s thanksgiving was not only about this Red Sea, Miriam had HISTORY!
This same Miriam, almost 80 years earlier, stood by the Nile watching a little basket of reeds carrying her baby brother and drifting away.
Think about that, she used her own hands to package the basket that could have been his basket of death, she used her own eyes to watch her baby brother disappear into the river.
We know the story naah, Pharaoh’s daughter found him, Moses was returned to his own mother, who was actually paid to nurse her own son. Again, But GOD!!
While Hebrew boys were being killed, Moses was growing up and living large inside Pharaoh’s palace. Later Moses had to flee Egypt after killing an Egyptian.
Shebi this should have been the end of her brother’s story, abi?
Years passed, decades passed…
Then, almost 80 years after Miriam watched that little basket disappear into the River Nile, she was standing on the other side of the Red Sea with the very same brother, still Alive now leading the very people GOD had rescued from Egypt.
So when Miriam picked up that tambourine, she wasn’t just celebrating this Red Sea deliverance, she remembered the prayers when everyone else has moved on.
Her praise therefor had a different kind of energy. See ehn when you remember your own history peren….your praise must surely get a major upgrade.
There is a specie of thanksgiving that comes from an intimate place of ‘Emilóyè’ ( i alone gerrit)
It is the kind that makes you stop and think how far GOD has brought you because if you only look at what GOD has done recently, you may not realise how much you actually have to thank HIM for.
So today be like Miriam and look far far backwards and remember that issue you thought would finish you, that door you thought would never open, that season you thought would never end, remember the prayers you prayed and the answers that eventually came.
Remember the many Red Seas that GOD parted for you, because sometimes the miracle isn’t in the moment when the sea opens. It is also the miracle of preserving, protecting and providing for you long before you knew what GOD was preparing you for.
So do something significant today, sing, dance, shout, or pull out your tambourine like a weapon, if you have one! 😂
Whatever you do ehn, don’t let familiarity make you forget GOD’S faithfulness, because But GOD o!
Are you with me in Team Miriam today so we can, Enter HIS gates with thanksgiving, and HIS courts with praise. Psalm 100:4?
I am She, She is me, i stand with Miriam abeg!
Do you get?
Shalom
