Gbaja: Buhari Has Agreed To Address Reps On Insecurity By Chinedu Asadu

President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to address the house of representatives on insecurity, according to Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker.

The lower legislative chamber of the national assembly had invited the president over incessant killings.

Speaking at the presidential villa in Abuja on Wednesday, Gbajabiamila said he met with the president over the issue.

Gbajabiamila told state house correspondents that the date for the presidential address has been agreed upon and will be disclosed soon.

“And what we basically sought is to convey the resolution of the house and to fix a date, which we did not fix out of respect for Mr. President and his very tight schedule, what date will be convenient. We have agreed on a date and he will meet with the house to address the situation,” he said.

“He’s is a perfect democrat. He will come and address the House in the nearest future.”

The speaker said Buhari is more concerned about the trend of things in the country, assuring Nigerians that the president is committed to the security of lives and property.

At Tuesday’s plenary session, the green chamber resolved to summon Buhari to speak on efforts being made to tackle the nation’s growing security challenges.

But some of the lawmakers including the speaker, had tried to block it, arguing that the president’s presence was not needed.

However, other lawmakers said the recent attack by Boko Haram insurgents which led to the murder of over 40 farmers shows the need for the president to appear before the lawmakers.
