Fulani Herdsmen Aren’t Criminals —Emir of Ilorin By Demola Akinyemi

ILORIN—The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has absolved Fulani herdsmen of responsibility for all the atrocities committed across the country, describing them as peaceful, lovable and honest in their dealings with other tribes.

The monarch also urged Nigerians to ensure that the desired peace and tranquility continued to reign in the nation through harmonious working relationships and honesty. He added that this became necessary due to the infiltration of attitudes alien to the practice and tradition of the people of Kwara State, especially indigenes of Ilorin.

The monarch stated this yesterday when members of Balogun Gambari community paid him a thank you visit over the elevation of the Balogun Gambari of Ilorin, Alhaji Adedayo Balogun, as the most senior chancellor in Ilorin Emirate Council.

The Emir said it was not true that Fulani herdsmen were responsible for the destruction of lives and property in some parts of the country stressing that Fulanis were peaceful, lovable and honest in their dealings with other tribes.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, however, urged individuals to always assess issues and desist from embarking on controversial matters capable of causing disharmony in the country.

Similarly, the Emir also received the leadership of the Ilorin Emirate Development Association led by its National President and Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Abdullahi Babatunde Salaudeen and Mallam Uthman Jagunmo, respectively, as part of preparations towards the forthcoming Eid-el- Kabir Sallah celebration.

The group expressed dissatisfaction over the unfortunate incidence of stone throwing and sachet water pelting on some personalities by hoodlums at the Ilorin Central Yidi praying ground in the past stressing that such attitude was alien to Ilorin tradition.

They however assured the monarch of its readiness to curb the recurrence of such dastard act adding that sensitization and advocacy moves have began across the state especially in the Ilorin Emirate ahead of the Sallah celebration.
