Church Hymns Are Not Lyrics and Choruses For Drumming and Dancing

It is good for Parishes in each diocese to study their Cathedrals. Copy what they do liturgically. My Cathedral has not being beating drum to Church Hymnals even if they are melodious! I believe the same in many dioceses.

It is Unaglican to sing from the hymns NOW THANKS WE ALL OUR GOD and begin to beat drums. THERE SHALL BE SHOWER OF BLESSING ams other hymns though ,they are hymns but they are more of prayers than just songs. There are differences between HYMNS, LYRICS and CHORUSES.

1. HYMNS

A Hymn is defined as a formal song sung during the public worship of God. Metrical psalms may also be categorised as hymns. Hymns consist of only words. The wording are messages from the Bible, we must pay attention to the wordings ! You will find Bible references on each hymn.

In addition, the tune to which a hymn is sung is known as the hymn tune. The music of a hymn is known as Chordal, which consists of a pattern of melody, harmony, and rhythm. It’s main function is to highlight the words in a hymn.

Hymns need no drumming to them for meditation and concentration. All hymns are words of God that we need to go through in song with devotedness.

When beating drum and dancing the following things are missing;
– The attention on the hymn’s wordings
– The dancing steps distract others
– Many abandon singing to dancing.

Christian hymns are often written with special or seasonal themes and these are used on holy days such as Christmas, Easter and the Feast of All Saints, or during particular seasons such asAdvent and Lent.

Others are used to encourage reverence for the Bible or to celebrate Christian practices such as the eucharist or baptism. Some hymns praise or address individual saints, particularly the Blessed Virgin Mary; such hymns are particularly prevalent in Catholicism,Eastern Orthodoxy and to some extent High Church Anglicanism.

A writer of hymns is known as a hymnodist, and the practice of singing hymns is called hymnody; the same word is used for the collectivity of hymns belonging to a particular denomination or period (e.g. “nineteenth century Methodist hymnody” would mean the body of hymns written and/or used by Methodists in the 19th century). A collection of hymns is called a hymnal orhymnary.

These may not include music; among the hymnals without printed music, some include names of hymn tunes suggested for use with each text, in case readers already know the tunes or would like to find them elsewhere.

A student of hymnody is called a hymnologist, and the scholarly study of hymns, hymnists and hymnody is hymnology. The music to which a hymn may be sung is a hymn tune.

CHORUS

Group of dancers and singers performing together in a modern musical show. Then, we have Christian Choruses with musical instruments.

Group of vocalists and dancers who support the soloists and leading performers in operas, musical comedies, and revues. These are gradually imported into the Church.

LYRICS

Lyrics are words that make up a song, usually consisting of verses and choruses. The writer of lyrics is a lyricist. The words to an extended musical composition such as an opera are, however, usually known as a “libretto” and their writer, as a “librettist”.

The meaning of lyrics can either be explicit or implicit. Some lyrics are abstract, almost unintelligible, and, in such cases, their explication emphasizes form, articulation, meter, and symmetry of expression. Rappers can also create lyrics

Most Anglican Lyrics are those composed locally for worship used in each local dialect. The Lyrics can go with drumming and dancing.

Summaries :

1. Drumming and dancing must not go with our Hymns even when they are melodious.

2. Lyrics are composed songs in our dialects included in some of our Hymn Books. These lyrics may go with drumming and dancing.

3. Choruses are not written but by group of singers or choir which can go with dancing and drumming

4. We lose and distract ourselves from the words of God when dancing the hymns, especially today’s Worldly dancing steps.

5. Instead of dancing hymns at Harvest and birthday thanksgivings put Lyrics or allow Choruses.

Our big Churches accompany hymns with Organ not drumming and dancing. Let stop imitating the White Garment Churches . Many of us are guilty on this issue, and we need to correct this.

This is the true Anglicanism.
