Boko Haram: Chibok suicide bombers targeted commanding officer -Army spokesman

bokoThe Media Coordinator, Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Mustapha Anka, on Thursday, said that two female suicide bombers who detonated improvised explosive device in a market at Chibok town on Wednesday, were targeting the Commanding Officer in charge of Chibok and surrounding areas.

Speaking during an interview with newsmen at the Maimalari Cantonment, the Army spokesman said, the suicide bombers disguised as women backing babies when they were approaching the Commading officer, but detonated the explosives before they could reach him.

“The Commanding Officer and another officer with him sustained injury and are currently receiving treatment. A number of people lost their lives and several others sustained varying degree of injury,” Col. Anka said.

Although he could not confirm the total number of casualties, reports from Chibok said, the death toll has risen to 20 while some of the injured persons are recuperating.
