Argentina v Iceland: Player Ratings

Iceland picked up their first ever World Cup point in the most unlikely of circumstances against tournament royalty, Argentina.

The game ended 1-1 after Ragnar Sigurdsson and co successfully shut down Leo Messi, to hold on for a draw that will live long in Icelandic mythology.

Sergio Aguero’s wonderful first half goal will be lost in the game’s bigger headlines, as a Finnbogason equalizer, followed by a missed Messi penalty, provided the main talking points at full time.

It was a frustrating game for Messi, who had to live with Iceland perpetually doubling up on him, with sometimes as many as 4 Iceland defenders swarming the Barca man. But a missed penalty at a crucial time, as well as a few wasted free kicks in good positions, ensure that after a game each so far, its Ronaldo 1, Messi 0.

For Argentina, victory in their next match becomes crucial, while Iceland will simply be taking everything in their stride, and will hope to spring a few more surprises along the way.

That is all to come, however, for now, here are the player ratings from an eventful afternoon in Moscow.
