Are African Pastors representing God or their pockets? by Frisky Larr

Time to reason again: It will hardly have been lost on anyone that the news media in recent times have repeated showcased weird and disturbing stories of self-styled African ‘Men of God’, who practice their understanding of the Christian religion in highly questionable manners. Beginning from the command on congregation to eat grass like cows down to reports of a pastoral order on his congregation to go naked in the nameof worship, the game of worshipping God has strongly descended to the garbage pit of ‘anything goes’ in hitting the headlines. The message of people trying to outdo each other in spectacular madness is no longer concealed.

When they run short of miracles that are generally fraudulent, they take on political predictions to attract followers like the merchandising of a unique selling point. The guessing game of winners and losers, feeble and strong, dying and standing are the least that happen in electoral periods. When a guessing game comes true, prophesies are celebrated. When they fail, it is still a mystery to me how the funny ‘Men of God’ manage to sway their followers to stay on believing in them. Such is the fallacy that defines a trend of mass stupefaction in Africa.

Without the willingly submissive and helpless folks, pastors will not thrive on the wealth that they gather from the poor and needy. They will not buy private jets, drive the most luxurious cars, wear designer dresses and exemplify themselves as testimonies of God’s blessing while they craft and design their strategies of fooling the crowd in their private retreat. Yet people are helpless in African states without intelligent governance to educate the people and wake them up to reality. The non-affordability of medical care leaves people at the mercy of prayer, belief, and miracles. The smart and eloquent ones prey on them and leave them in the dungeon of decapitation and erosion of the spirit to be a man.

Why is Africa in this state? Why is education not making the desired impact on the educated class to spread the spirit of rational education and teach people to question the dubious ‘Word of God’ and ‘Criminal miracles’ arranged by smart gangs of exploiters?

I enjoin you once again compatriots, to take a look at my critical book “Africa’s Diabolical Entrapment” and kick-start the long-drawn journey to public awareness. Start the debate NOW! Bring the issue to the front burner!
