Akpabio: Senators Don’t Send Their Daughters To Nigerian Varsities For Fear Of Sexual Assault

akpabio 2Godswill Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom state and senate minority leader, has lamented the moral decadence in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Speaking on Tuesday during the screening of Isaac Adewole, the ministerial nominee from Osun state, Akpabio said members of the upper legislative chamber are worried by the sex-for-marks syndrome in Nigerian universities.

“In The Nigerian universities today, many female students don’t go to class because they know that they will end up sorting,” he said.

“The issue of sex-for-marks is very prevalent in Nigerian universities, which is the reason why most of the senators you see here, their female children are not in Nigeria because they do not want lecturers to ask them for sex in favour of marks.

“If you end up as a minister, as a member of the federal executive council, how will you advise the federal government to address the issue of ‘national sorting’? The issue is very disturbing.”

His question elicited laughter from some of his colleagues, who cheered him.

In his response, Adewole addressed virtually all the questions raised by the lawmaker but did not utter a word on Akpabio’s last question.

Adewole is currently the vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan.

  1. Akpabio is suffering from amnesia. He should tell us what was his contributions to the tertiary institutions in his state when he was governor. Irs not his fault,if he is in kuje prison now he wont be talking rubbish like an idiot in the senate. Until the EFCC do the needful we will continue to have numbskull like him talking from both sides of their mouth

  2. I am highly annoyed, but not disappointed about that childish statement made by senator Akpabio. He is now telling us that nigerian learning institutions is infested with sex maniacs. It’s a shame for a statement like that to be coming from a senator of the federal republic of nigeria. For somebody who has been in government all this long what has he done to change the system? I see that statement as one of those flimsy excuses they normally give to divert attentions. When he was involved in a minor accident the other day he flew overseas to seek medical care. Maybe he was also nursing the idea that nigerian hospitals are full of doctors and nurses that harass their patients sexually. Somebody should not tell me that he is entitled to his opinion with that statement. These days people, many people just talk any how with impunity.
