Passenger films terrifying moment sparks shoot out of Dreamliner jet’s engine following ‘loud bang’ as it flew to Singapore from Sydney | Daily Mall Online

This is the terrifying moment passengers saw SPARKS pouring mid-air out of a plane’s engine mid-flight.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner was flying from Sydney to Singapore when travellers said they heard a loud bang from the aircraft’s right wing.

Horrified passengers looked out of the window when the plane was 30 minutes from landing just before 6pm on Saturday, and saw a trail of bright orange sparks coming from the engine.

The flight was operated by Scoot, Singapore’s low cost airline.

People on the plane said they only became aware of the sparks after hearing the loud noise, which caused them to realise something may be wrong, as the plane was on its decent into Singapore.

A ten-second clip posted on Chinese social media shows the hair-raising view from the window of the budget airline.
One passenger, named only as ‘Benetton’ said his friend had been travelling on the plane and recorded the drama.

He said that he had heard a loud noise about 30 to 40 minutes before landing and looked out of the cabin window and saw the engine on fire.

Fellow passengers in the clip can be heard suggesting that a bird had been sucked into the engine.
In response to media queries, Scoot told The Straits Times that the incident led to the plane’s engine being shut down

In a statement the airline said the aircraft landed as scheduled but the sparks ‘necessitated a shut-down of the right engine’

Flight crew on board the plane contacted the Singapore Air Traffic Control Centre and requested fire services to be on stand-by as the plane landed, and firefighters subsequently confirmed that there was no engine fire.

A spokesman for the airline said: ‘The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

‘Safety is of utmost importance to Scoot and we will spare no effort to ensure the well-being of our guests.’
