Gunmen Kill at Least 30 People in Northeast Nigeria Attacks ……. BLOOMBERG

Gunmen killed as many as 30 people in raids on five villages in northeastern Nigeria early Sunday said to be caused by tensions between local herdsmen and farmers in the area, according to a resident.

Herders attacked and razed the villages of Demsare, Dikajam, Kangling, Taboungo and Wunamokoh in Adamawa state at about 5 a.m. on Sunday and killed a police officer, Abubakar Sawa, a hunter from the area, said by phone. Authorities have arrested an unspecified number of suspects, Gazzali Mohammed, Adamawa’s police commissioner, said by phone on Monday. He put the death toll at 15.

“The attackers looted and carted away foodstuffs and livestock of the villagers before setting the villages ablaze,” Abubakar said by phone. “The corpses of the slain police officer and remaining civilians are currently deposited at the morgue.”
