“Whoever thinks Lagos is a no man’s land is not only being stupid but in self denial”…..Jude Anyigbo

Dear Jimi,

I read with indignation and pity the article under reference and published in your blog of 28 April 2015.

The venom, the hate and the innuendo inherent in this article are unbelievable. It is unfortunate the writer confessed that he does not believe in Nigeria and therefore because of his parochial and limited perspective he would rather Nigeria scatters! It is sad. It is unfortunate !

For good order sake, let me state upfront that whoever thinks Lagos is a no man’s land is not only being stupid but in self denial. The fact that a ‘section of the Igbo’ is seen to be propagating this foolish position is not enough reason to subtly call for xenophobic attack against a people where both the innocent and guilty will suffer. I see this as petty and little-mindedness .

I do not know Remi’s age to know if he was here during the civil war. I was a kid in Biafra and what I experienced would not wish my children or future generation of Nigeria to witness it. It is so easy to incite violence when tempers fly,but my brother,we must all use our senses right. These things are very complicated and are not as easy as they seem if you understand what I mean.

I believe in Nigeria inspite of all the unwholesome things that have been happening . Nation building is not a tea party. I am confident that one day, a leader such as the late Lee Kuan Yew will one day arise in Nigeria and take Nigeria to where she belongs. This is the greatest country on earth,no matter the parameter of assessment ! We have more than enough to go round. We are continually held back by leaders and people like Remi who keep fanning embers of ethnicity and religion. C’mon guys, this is 2015! Let’s wake up and smell the coffee. Look at the giant strides of Rwanda . Look at Ethiopia trying to dominate the air and rail transport in Africa and we are here talking about little things. Sad,very sad.

As regards the statistics on NCC, Remi should have first verified it before rushing to publish. I can tell you that the Igbo are not known for nepotism in Nigeria. They can be accused of many things, but certainly that’s not one of their weaknesses. We all know which part of Nigeria that has  crown for that. Let’s not go there because it serves no good.

My dream for this country is when we see ourselves as proud Nigerians rather than Igbo,Yoruba,Hausa,Bini,Itshekiri,Tiv etc. A day, when a Remi can be the local government chairman of Ihiala local government area of Anambra state and a Chukwuemeka the governor of Zamfara and  Musa the secretary to government in Oyo state. A day also when the president,Vice President ,ministers will be dominated by a certain religion or region with no question asked so long as they are delivering on the promises.
Long live Nigeria.

  1. Mr jude, thank you for setting some issues right like “lagos is a no man’s land” e.t.c but I want to collaborate Mr. Remi’s argument about igbos dominating a department or sector once the “oga at the top” is igbo extraction because I can give you examples even in the corporate world. Am a true Nigerian and not just a yoruba man because other country nationals will consider me a Nigerian and not a yoruba/ibo/hausa man. Above all I second what you said about a late lee yuaw kan kind of president in Nigeria one day soonest in Jesus name.

  2. Until the philosophy which hold one race superior
    And another
    Inferior
    Is finally
    And permanently
    Discredited
    And abandoned –
    Everywhere is war –
    Me say war.

    That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man’s skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes –
    Me say war.

That until the basic human rights
    Are equally guaranteed to all,
    Without regard to race –
    Dis a war.(BOB MARLEY)
