University Invasion By Nigerian Air Force Personnel: Investigative Panel Begins Sitting | PremiumTimes

The committee set up to investigate last week’s invasion of Osun State University by officials of the Air Force Safety Institute at Ipetu Ijesa, has commenced sitting.

PREMIUM TIMES checks indicate that the panel headed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Janet Olaitan, had its sitting on Tuesday.

The six-member panel inaugurated by the school’s management, has seven days to conclude its work and submit its report.

A source confirmed that the panel entertained submissions from affected staff who were brutalised by the military personnel.

The committee had earlier made available two phone numbers and an email through which stakeholders could assist it with information necessary for its assignment.

“As we are speaking now, the committee is sitting and some students and staff affected are present to make their submissions,” the source said.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Adebimpe Adigun, confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday that the panel had concluded interviewing staff affected.

“The next stage is to interact with students before rounding off its work,” Mrs. Adigun said.

Asked if the panel would be inviting personnel of the NAF, she said she was uncertain about it as the NAF had also set a committee on its own to investigate the matter.

Officials of the Air Force Institute poured into the Ipetu Ijesa campus of the school and caused injuries to students and lecturers in two separate attacks.

The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, had also constituted an investigative panel to look into the issue, vowing to punish its officials if they were found culpable.

The Air Force has not provided any details of its investigation.

Meanwhile, normal school activities have resumed at the campus, after the students were sent home on break after the violence.
