UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been discharged from hospital after being in intensive care with Covid-19, Downing Street has said.
Johnson had been receiving treatment for coronavirus at St Thomas’ Hospital in London since last Sunday.
Johnson was discharged to begin his recovery, at Chequers, said Downing Street spokesman.
Chequers is the official country residence of British prime ministers, according to CNN.
“On the advice of his medical team, the PM will not be immediately returning to work. He wishes to thank everybody at St Thomas’ for the brilliant care he has received,” the spokesman added.
Johnson was on Monday night moved into intensive care as his coronavirus case worsens.
He was moved into the ICU of St. Thomas Hospital as a precaution in case he required a ventilator.
He was moved back to a normal ward on Thursday.
As he recovered, Johnson thanked staff at St Thomas Hospital for taking care of him while he recovers from COVID-19.
“I can’t thank them enough. I owe them my life,” Johnson said in a brief statement issued late on Saturday.
