The Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, is in the news again. Again, for the wrong reason!
While Nigerians were still grappling with his confession that his ministry didn’t make provisions for the Super Falcons simply because he hadn’t thought they could win, his latest gaffe has to do with grammatical hara-kiri — the sort that could make his child in the Junior Secondary School wonder who is correct between daddy and his teacher!
In a video posted by Channels Television, Dalung, who was being questioned by the House of Representatives Committee on Sports over issues of disbursement of funds to the various sports federations, denied allegations that his ministry was corrupt.
In his desperation to defend himself, Dalung said, “The funds ‘spended were properly spended because we got them from intervention funds from Mr. President.”
Nigerians have taken him up on it, though, with various reactions all over the social media.

He may be correct in his grammar. It depends upon how you spell and pronounce expended.
My people will say look at d house before u name a child. D time he was going to school most of is mate didn’t have secondary school certificate so I don’t blame him.
Poor guy. U just have to feel for him. If only he could be sane enough to discard that beret, maybe we would begin to see him as a confused man and not an absolute lunatic.
The funds “SPENDED”the Guy just they fall my hand seriously and unnecessarily .He is just getting himself into what I will call KATAKATA!!!
SOlomon Dalung is a shame…A supposed Barrister and minister of Youth…Even my Nephews in KG classes cannot commit that kind of blunder! Is there anything like SPENDED? I question his Certificates! He is not learned! I am waiting to see if he will say he didn’t murder English or he was quoted out of context.
Na wao spended indeed
I hope this time he will not say he was quoted out of context. What mediocrity.
