Transport App, ‘Taxify’ Debuts In Abuja Today

Taxify, a ride-hailing platform that allows people to request a ride from their smartphones debuts in Abuja today.

The smartphone application (app) was founded by 19-year old high school student, Markus Villig in 2013. Villig now 23 years old from Estonia, a country near Russia, has his platform operating in 18 countries and 25 cities in Europe, Western Asia, Africa and Mexico.

The Nigerian Operations Manager, Uche Okafor, said that Abuja is an exciting and thriving market with an outgoing population for private urban transport. “We’re very excited to launch here and have a solid team on ground. We are confident that Taxify can effectively contribute to healthy competition by improving the quality of service and lowering the prices for the end customer,” he said.

To celebrate, the firm is offering a 40 per cent discount to riders during this month. Although the platform has been in Nigeria for a while, it was operating only in Lagos, and is now expanding to cover Abuja.

On how the technology-driven transport platform will compete in the market, Uche said the operators take less commission from their drivers so they can be motivated to treat the riders better.
“Taxify does this by ensuring that drivers are able to earn more driving on our platform than on any other platform. This combined with our end-to-end support ensures that our drivers are happier driving on Taxify and are ultimately able to provide better quality service for riders,” he explained.
