The new governor of Ondo state, Mr Rotimi Odunayo Akeredolu yesterday promised the people of the state that their welfare would be accorded priority by his administration even as he rebuilds the state. Mr Akeredolu who was sworn in as the sixth governor of Ondo state gave an assurance to build a new state where honesty, prosperity and confidence will once again be the people’s self identity. Also sworn in was his deputy, Hon Alfred Agboola Ajayi who was a former member of the House of Representatives representing Ilaje/ Ese Odo Federal constituency in the state.
In his inaugural speech titled “Journey to Redemption”, which he read after his swearing-in in Akure, Akeredolu said, “ We are determined to make the difference with the specific mandate of redemption liberally handed over to us. All of us will be involved in the reconstruction project. The collective interest of the state must be our paramount focus.
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu taking oath of office as 7th Governor of Ondo state “ Consequently, we stand before you to pledge, with the guidance of God and our resolve not to renege on our promise, that your welfare shall form the basis of all our activities. We intend to help rebuild our economy, resuscitate damaged infrastructure, restore hope and return our state to a prosperous land.
“We will break down the barriers to honest leadership, to comprehensive development, to physical growth and social security.
These we intend to do through the promotion of transparent leadership, rule of law, extensive consultation, quality and accessible public utilities and social security; all in a sustainable manner”.
Akeredolu however said that the journey to redemption will not be without stress and undulating curves. “There are mountains before us to climb. As we climb up these steep mountains sometimes we may trip or slip but we will get back up. We will focus on the journey, we will never stop.
In the end, we will reach our goal which is to bring back jobs to our youths, food to families, safety, confidence and prosperity to this land. We hope to take the state out of the morass of privation, hopelessness and desperation. The welfare of our people shall be the fundamental objective and directive principle of governance in Ondo state”. Akeredolu promised to sustain and improve on the programme currently operating in the state.
Former Lagos state governor and a national leader of the party Bola Tinubu and the former chairman of the party Chief Bisi Akande were present at the swearing in ceremony. Others present include the national chairman of the Party, John Oyegun, Senate President Olusola Saraki , deputy Speaker House of Representative Lasun Yussuf, senator Bode Olajumoke, governors of Ekiti Ayo Fayose, Oyo state Abiola Ajimobi, Ogun, Ibikunle Amosun, Edo state Godwin Obaseki and Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal.
Others include senator Isiaka Adeleke, Kogi state governor Yaya Bello, information minister Lai Muhammed, former governor of old Ondo state Chief Bamidele.
Olumilua, wife of the late former Ondo governor Olusegun Agagu, Olufunke, labour minister Chris Ngige, Senator Joshua Dariye, former Osun state governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, minister of solid minerals Dr Kayode Fayemi, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, Senator Olusola Adeyeye, former Ogun state governor Segun Osoba and former deputy governor of Ogun Segun Adesegun. Traditional rulers present include the Olowo of Owo Oba Olateru Olagbegi, Olugbo of Ugbo Fredrick Akinruntan, Osemawe of Ondo Oba Adesunmbo Kiladejo and the Deji of Akureland Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.
