There is a saying in Yoruba which literary translated, means you do not ask for the cause of death of a forebear until you have the hilt of the sword firmly in your hands.
The time is at hand for the citizens of this country to take their destiny in their hands and force the rampaging politicians to rule with decorum.
The tools are there, there is no need for any new political party and there is no need to be members of any political party to effect the needed change. All that is required is time, networking and common sense.
Two prevailing conditions have made this time auspicious. Firstly, the introduction of PVC and the Card Reader technology which appeared on the scene against all odds.
Secondly, the election of Buhari/Osinbajo team. The two gentlemen are not the run-of-the-mill politicians who talk from both sides of their mouths. They both live Spartan and un-ostentatious lives, they exude anti-corruption in their individual body language. They will deliver if they are allowed to work unfettered.
Now, the citizens need to own them as against leaving them at the mercy of politicians who are capable of removing the rug from under their feet.
We do not need any think-tank or any committees that could be sabotaged, infiltrated and compromised to do this. Information is power. Since everybody is connected to the GSM platform, this becomes a powerful and veritable tool to get results.
For a start, we need to know our representatives at all levels and how to reach them by phone. We share this information widely among politically enlightened people in our locality and we should encourage others to do the same with friends, relations, workers, artisans and traders in their neighbourhoods.
Our representatives are supposed to follow the aggregate of our wishes. Hitherto since we never contacted them, nor they us before acting on our behalf, we need to change that by making our views known to them. We can monitor their views on important decisions in the various Houses and get these across to the electorate. If they are engaged in activities that are not in the interest of the masses, by the same method we can organize their recall.
I think this is the way to start. Let the citizens organize, we are more than the politicians and we can truly make them our servants rather than our masters. It is now left for everyone to be a Change Agent.
Facebook is just a means of information exchange, we need to put our boots on the ground. So, let us get cracking!
