Volvo is recalling almost 70,000 cars in Britain because of the risk of engine fires, the company announced today.
The Swedish carmaker, which is owned by the Chinese group Geely, said that more than 500,000 of its most popular models would be recalled globally after it had identified the problem. Volvo said it will contact all affected customers.
In a statement it said: “We have identified that in very rare cases the plastic engine intake manifold may melt and deform on certain model year 2014-2019 vehicles with four-cylinder diesel engines.
“In the most extreme cases, there is a possibility that a localised engine bay fire may occur. The issue affects 69,616 cars in the UK.
