Hungary is having a wedding boom after the government introduced hand-outs for newlyweds to boost the country’s stalling birth rate. The number of new marriages is the highest since the fall of communism 30 years ago, the national statistics office says.
This September, there were more weddings than in any previous September since 1979. The rate has risen by 29 per cent over the past 12 months. Much of the increase has been attributed to the pro-marriage drive.
