In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon whom Allah sent as a mercy to the Worlds, upon his Family, his Companions and his Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.
Dear brothers and sisters! When the devils wanted to burn the Prophet (Peace be upon him) and destroy him and the Du’a that Archangel Jibril taught him for protection against them and the Du’a the Prophet (Peace be upon him) taught Khalid Ibn al-Walid when he complained of feeling some fear at night is as follows:
Imam Ahmad and Ibn Abi Shaibah report from Abu Tayyah that he said:
“Someone asked Abdur-Rahman Ibn Khanbash, ‘What did the Prophet (Peace be upon him) do when the devils plotted against him?’ So he replied, ‘The Devils came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) from the valleys and descended upon him from the mountains. Amongst them was a devil who wanted to burn Allah’s Messenger (Peace be upon him) with a wooden torch that he had with him. So [then] Jibril (AS) came and said, ‘O Muhammad! Say [it]!’ He replied, ‘What shall I say?’ He said, ‘Say:
Meaning:
I seek refuge in the Most Perfect Words of Allah which no righteous or evil person can pass from the evil of what He has created, sowed and formed! And from the evil that comes down from the sky and from the evil that ascends it! And from the evil that is sowed in the earth and the evil that comes out from it! And from the evil of the tribulations of the night and day! And from the evil of every single one who comes knocking except someone who comes knocking with good, O Most Merciful One!’
And so the fire of the Devils was put out and Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, defeated them.’” [See As-Sahihah no. 840]
And at-Tabarani reports in al-Kabir from Khalid Ibn al-Walid, may Allah be pleased with him, that:
“… he complained to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) saying, ‘I feel some fear at night.’ So he said, ‘Should I not teach you some words which Jibril (AS) taught me when he believed a powerful [Ifrit] Jinn was plotting against me? He said:
A’uzu bi-kalimatillahit-Tammatillati la yujawizuhunna barrun wa la fajirun min sharri ma yanzilu minas-sama‘i wa ma ya’ruju fiha. Wa min sharri ma zara‘a fil-ardi wa ma yakhruju minha. Wa min sharri fitanil-laili wa fitanin-nahari. Wa min sharri tawariqil-laili wan-nahari illa tariqan yatruqu bi khairin, Ya Rahman!
Meaning:
I seek refuge in the Most Perfect Words of Allah which no righteous or evil person can pass from the evil that comes down from the sky and ascends it! And from the evil that is sowed in the earth and the evil that comes out from it! And from the evil of the tribulations of the night and the tribulations of the day! And from the evil of all the ones who come knocking during the night and day except someone who comes knocking with good, O Most Merciful One!’” [See As-Sahihah no. 2738]
A Du’a to be recited when we are afraid of people’s evil, harm and attack
You recite: Allahummak-finihim bima shi’ta.
Meaning:
O Allah, protect me from them with what You choose (or as You will). [Sahih Muslim]
Wassalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullah wa bara ka tuhu
