Many people have confronted me with the scripture that says “money answereth all things” (Ecclesiastes 10:19). “Once there is money, marriage will work, they say.” I have always asked them: “Why are billionaire couples divorcing?” Nobody has provided me with an answer to this question. Now, does this mean that the Bible has lied? It is not possible. Money answereth all things only applies to material things and not spiritual things. How do I know? When Jesus said: “you cannot serve GOD and MAMMON” (Matthew 6:24) he was talking about two opposite things. God is a spirit meant to be worshipped (John 4:24). Mammon is also a spirit, not meant to be worshipped but created to be used.
So, all money worshippers are doomed. Money can buy anything in this world that is physical or material such as houses, cars, aircraft and so on. Money can NEVER buy spiritual things lie true love, salvation, sacrifice, anointing, deliverance, healing, fruits of the holy spirit like gentleness (which has to do with integrity and reliability in relationship), kindness, joy, peace, goodness, baptism of the holy spirit, divine connection, spiritual revelation and so on. There are too many things money cannot buy. Do you understand? This is why, for instance, you can use money to lure someone to attend your church.
The person stops attending, the moment you stop offering that bate called money because money cannot buy personal salvation encounter with Christ, neither can it buy true commitment. You can use money to convince a lady or guy to marry you but you must never rely on money alone to sustain that relationship because it cannot.
The power of money is limited in capacity. It cannot sustain a destiny phenomenon like marital relationship. Why? Marriage is spiritual. Money is very important in mar-riage but money ALONE cannot sustain it. There is nothing in this world that can give you perfect satisfaction and joy of eternity except your heart is possessed by Jesus Christ and his love because anything that possesses your heart has possessed your entire life, determining your joy status every time. Is your heart for sale? Yes. But please, don’t sell it to mammon (money). Sell it to God.
When you do this, you have satisfaction and contentment in life (Timothy 6:6- 11). If you are unmarried and the only qualification of your potential life partner is that there is plenty of money, may God help you. Character is more of a spiritual thing and can give satisfaction more than money but good character even when it exists, cannot be guaranteed without a genuine encounter with Christ. Christ’s nature can only become real in a human being when the person has a personal encounter with Christ. Godliness with contentment is great gain (Timothy 6:6) means that your relationship or love for your creator is not a function of what he gives or does not give you.
You simply love God and enjoy divine joy for who he is to you. As an unmarried person, whether or not God decides to give you a husband or wife, your joy in him remains intact. As a married person, your joy is not a function of whether or not your partner is reciprocating your show of love, sacrifice and contribution to success in the marriage. You are just satisfied and joyful, cheerfully doing everything to make the marriage work because you understand that “your maker is your husband” () and that your earthly marriage is part of your divine assignment. Your contentment and joy cannot be explained by carnal people of the other kingdom. “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace and JOY in the holy ghost” (Romans 14:17).
“For the LOVE of MONEY is the root of all evil” (1st Timothy 6:10) There are many people that are not married today and are watching themselves get older because they are waiting for a banker, oil company worker or some billionaire. Meanwhile, someone is already married to a millionaire or billionaire but slaves and destitute are better than this person because, he or she married based on “harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.”
The love for money has pushed many into truncated destinies sparked by teenage pregnancies, having children outside without the knowledge of their partners, etc. Many have ended up being killed for money rituals because they were lured by money to run after “potential spouses.”
Some are currently into prostitution (sleeping with various men or women) because of money. Some married people have embraced adultery. Some have betrayed their wives, husbands, selling them to the enemy. All these are evils that the love for money causes. For such people, snares (traps), destruction and perdition are ahead even here on earth before the eternal damnation in hell fire because “God is angry with the wicked everyday” (Psalm 7:11). If you have been married to the wrong person before you were deceived with money, your case is not hopeless.
What you need to do is to get married to Jesus. He alone has the capacity to change your situation. If you are old enough for marriage and you have not found someone to marry because you have all this while, held on to plenty money as condition for accepting marriage proposal, then, you are the cause of your marital delay.
You now know better. God’s spirit satisfies both spiritual, material needs. Satan can only sometimes, meet material and temporal needs, with destructive conditions and end. Most times, Satan uses money. When he tempted Jesus, he even offered Jesus all material (riches) of this world (Matthew 4). Satan’s stock in trade is using money to lure people into destruction and failure, even in marriage. So, my brother! My sister! Start looking for character in Christ Jesus in your spouse or potential spouse. Money ALONE has no capacity to give you marital success. Only Christ’s nature can do it.
