The National Association of Resident Doctors has shifted its proposed nationwide strike, scheduled to have commenced on April 25, 2016, to May 9, 2016.
The National President of the association, Dr. Muhammad Askira, who said this on Sunday while addressing newsmen in Kano, explained that the decision to shift the commencement date was taken after an extraordinary meeting of the National Executive Council of the association, held on April 26 in Sokoto.
After deliberations on the progress so far recorded, according to Askiro, the NEC unanimously decided to shift the strike by two weeks.
He said, the prompt intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari during a meeting with NMA national leadership, as contained in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, informed the decision to shift the strike.
He explained that the NEC decision was due to the genuine efforts and commitment demonstrated by the Minister of Health and the management team of the ministry, as well as the intervention of the National Assembly in ensuring an amicable resolution of the dispute.
Askira stated, “The NEC has also resolved to direct our branches in Osun State, specifically LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, to immediately suspend the seven-month old strike.”
