PROFILE:……Lami!

Lami(Lande Akitoye), was born in Oxford to an accountant father and educationist mother. She is married and blessed with 5 wonderful children 23, 17, 10, 8 and 3. She returned to Africa to adapt to her royal roots, being a grandchild of Oba Akitoye and Sir Mobaji Bank Anthony. There she studied dressmaking at Yaba College of Technology where she was spotted and was offered to model at fashion shows for the British Council in Lagos. She returned to the UK to pursue her career and studied at Croydon College and qualified as a Beauty Therapist, Make up Artist and a Nail Technician; she then went on to study special effects photographic make up and make up artistry at Westminster.

Lami was again spotted by Bernard Evans from New York, a personal make up artist and stylist to Janet Jackson, and began modeling with Black Beauty Hair Magazine and Pride Magazine. Ever since, she has worked as a Makeup Artist with renowned companies in Selfridges and started off with Karen miller. She later moved on to Estee Lauder followed by Elizabeth Arden and finally became the Accounts Manger to the popular IMAN cosmetics. After a few years Lami then decided to return to Lagos and opened up her boutique were she met the love of her life, Jasper who ran his private label company. They both decided to return to the UK. On her return Lami decided to open up her studio Landez Institute of Make-Up where she started training young prospective make up artists whilst continuing to work for Black Up Makeup.

Lami is a qualified agent with Super Cover Professional Makeup and a professional member of BABTAC and Itec. She is also an event organizer and specializes in bridal makeup, media makeup, catwalk special effects for TV and film and worked as the official make up artist for the Miss Nigeria Uk with Prince Ojei, owner of Celebration Magazine for 3 years consecutively. Lami has also worked with TV presenters such as Princess of Arise Margo Holder , Reuben P Joseph (international chirographer), Bernard Evans and many more. With the help of God she has diversified into making her own label and makeup range in cosmetic and skin care called LAMI.

Lami was recently a judge on the Black Up competition and has recently launched her own real hair virgin line.

As a role model, she strives to raise awareness and educates individuals by regaining their self esteem and confidence by the way they look and appear leaving an everlasting legacy for her children. Make up has always been her passion.

Lami believes that make up is all about creating a character. Here are her words – “Makeup is about well being and enhancements and I strongly believe that if we look good we feel good. I am passionate about making people look and feel beautiful, make up enhances our inner beauty. Although modern make-up has been traditionally used mainly by women, an increasing number of males are gradually using cosmetics usually associated to women to enhance or cover their own facial features which are kind of exciting to me as every one wants to look and feel great.”

Make up and their functions:

• Primer: comes in various formulas to suit individual skin conditions. Most are meant to reduce the appearance of pore size, prolong the wear of makeup, and allow for a smoother application of makeup, and are applied before foundation.
• Concealer: makeup used to cover any imperfections of the skin. Concealer is often used for any extra coverage needed to cover blemishes, under eye circles, and other imperfections.
• Foundation: used to smooth out the face and cover spots or uneven skin coloration. Usually a liquid, cream, or powder, as well as most recently a light and fluffy mousse. Foundation provides coverage from sheer to full depending on preference.
• Powder: used to set the foundation, giving it a matt finish, and also to conceal small flaws or blemishes. Tinted face powders may also be worn alone as a light foundation
• Rouge/Blusher: cheek coloring used to bring out the color in the cheeks and make the cheek bones Contour powder/creams are used to define the face. They can be used to give the illusion of a slimmer face or to modify a person’s face shape in other desired ways. Usually a few shades darker than one’s own skin tone and matte in finish, contour products create the illusion of depth. A darker toned foundation/concealer can be used instead of contour products for a more natural look.
• Highlight: used to draw attention to the high points of the face as well as to add glow to the face, comes in liquid, cream, and powder forms. It often contains a substance to provide shimmer. A lighter toned foundation/concealer can be used instead of highlight to create a more natural look.
• Bronzer: used to give skin a bit of color by adding a golden or bronze glow, as well as being used for contouring.
• Mascara: used to darken, lengthen, thicken, or draw attention to the eyelash. It is available in natural colors such as brown and black.
