In December of 2012, SaharaTV’s Rudolf Okonkwo interviewed Prof. Nimi Wariboko on Nigerian churches, issues of successions, accountability, and transparency.
Some of the recommendations made by Wariboko are at the center of the Corporate Governance Code that compelled Pastor Enoch Adeboye to relinquish his post as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Nigeria.
Pastor Adeboye is now called the General Overseer RCCG worldwide. It is a distinction that legal minds are not sure would stand. At best it was an effort by the hierarchy of the church to circumvent the law.
Under the requirements of the Financial Regulations Council for all registered churches, mosques, and CSOs, heads of non-profit organizations have a maximum period of 20 years to lead. They are not allowed to hand over to their family members.
Watch the interview and see the outstanding issues not yet to be addressed.
