Supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Saturday, staged rallies in cities such as Lagos, Ekiti, Kaduna, Asaba and Bauchi.
Members of the Obi support group marched in Lekki, Surulere and Ikeja areas of Lagos State.
The supporters converged on Ikeja amidst the heavy presence of the police and officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch.
Members of the ‘Obidient’ movement also organised medical support for the supporters, while making sure that the routes where they marched were. Our correspondent sighted branded water bottles and cups shared among the supporters.
The Coordinator, Peter Obi Intervention Network for Transformation, Saheed Onitilo, said the coming together of Nigerians to support the LP candidate showed that Obi would change the face of politics in the country, adding that many of the supporters sponsored themselves to the rally.
Similarly, the Coordinator, Super Volunteers for Peter Obi, Omoshalewa Junaid, said, “The rally has a character of its own. This shows that we are not just on social media. To everyone that is watching, don’t be intimidated. There are many of us supporting you; we are many and when the time comes to vote, we will show up.”
Members of Obi support groups staged a sensitisation rally across major streets of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, urging the people of the state to support the movement to rescue Nigeria from its present state.
The rally, which took from Ori Apata in the Adebayo area of the city, moved though the Fajuyi Park to the Basiri area and headed for the Post Office area and Ijigbo before returning to the Fajuyi Park.
The National Financial Secretary, LP, Olugbenga Daramola, said, “We are tired of old hands. We need new, tested and trusted hands. We need a young person who understands our problems and who can solve the problems of Nigeria; that person is Obi. That is what we are telling the people.”
Similarly, the LP state Chairman, Odunayo Okunade, said, “The Labour Party is the way to go. Other parties have given Nigerians promises and they have failed Nigerians. Our message to Ekiti people and Nigerians is that with Obi, the country’s injury will soon be healed.”
In Kaduna, the supporters marched from the Abuja-Kaduna Road junction through the Command Secondary School, Refinery junction to Narayi, and caused gridlock in the process.
Speaking, the Chairman of the Obi/Datti Movement in the state, Chief Morrison Ikpeanaeze, said, “Obi is no doubt the next president of the Nigeria.”
Thousands of residents of Bauchi took to the streets to show support for Obi.
The rally obstructed vehicular movement for some hours as motorists had to take alternative routes to get to their destinations.
