Not Too Young To Lead By Adeola Ibigbemi

One of the best things a nation can experience is having it’s younger generation doing great exploits, greatest of these great exploits is having these young men and women discharging excellent leadership at top positions, radiating excellent positive influence.

However, am concerned about something. Am concerned about the new #Not_too_young_to_run mindset that’s taken over everywhere.

My point of concern:

The #Not_too_young_to_run mind set seem to have taken the place of the search for effective leadership. Youths now seem to start aligning themselves with younger aspirants IRRESPECTIVE OF WHETHER THEY HAVE THE CAPACITY FOR EXCELLENT LEADERSHIP OR NOT.

I am rather a fan of #not_too_young_to_lead. Because it is when we benchmark every aspirant on excellent leadership that we can start asking the right set of questions.

As far as am concerned we will not align with any aspirant that is not young. But beyond being a young person, we should ask questions.

We will question your antecedents. For the past 5-10 years of your life what have you committed yourself to? Did those commitments ever exposed you to leadership? You don’t necessarily have to have held any political office. We will question your commitment to service to others. Have you helped anybody grow? We will dig your history.

Leadership is no longer free for all like it used to be. If you can’t stand the tests, go back to your drawing board and rebuild yourself.

To the best of my knowledge, humans can always recreate themselves.

For the fresh, immediate graduates running for offices, it’s a good thing. Confidence is one of the characters I value so much in people. I’ll rather suggest you go experience the world first.

Go start a business, get a job, do community service, join red cross, join the military, build relationships, travel to other countries, Lead groups of people, handle projects, just go build something. Just go explore.

I am 100% sure that the Confidence you applied at deciding to run for office, if applied at building something, you will come out supper excellently.

Forget school politics, we all did it. Its different out here. Its not about all the “I second” and all the permu’ in students politics. Also its not about those show of influence.

We will no longer commit the running of our political arena to people without excellent leadership records.

Beyond the questions of excellent leadership is another greater question; CHARACTER.

We will question your character, are you a thief? Are you ruthless? We will dig your character records down to your primary school. We are interested in who you are. How do you run your family if you have one.

Leadership is basically about two things; the task and the person(his character)

Adolf Hitler Is a very strong leader but his character cost the world millions of lives.
General Sanni Abacha is a very strong leader but we all know what his character cost this country.

Dr. Stella Adadevoh was a medical doctor. Her strength of character, her decisiveness, responsibility and Sacrifice saved us an epidemic that is capable of bringing our dear nation to a halt. An epidemic that would have cost Nigeria hundreds of millions of lives was averted because one person exercised strong leadership and strong character.

That is how sensitive leadership is.
Imagine if Esther in the bible lacks decisive character, the whole israel would have perished.

And finally, before you tell me my expectations are too high;

Go through history, look how many nations have perished because of leadership, look how many nations were prospered because of leadership.

Serious people don’t take chances with their leadership.

Always remember this;
EVERYTHING RISES AND FALLS WITH LEADERSHIP.
your well being and prosperity included.
