Man, 20, Commits Suicide In Rivers Church | Punch

There was pandemonium around Creek Road in Port Harcourt on Thursday after a young parishioner identified as Kachi hanged himself inside the church hall of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Kachi was also said to be a taxi driver, who was committed to the functions of a parishioner in the Catholic Church.

Though nobody could ascertain his age immediately, some persons stated that the deceased was below 20 years old.

Sources told Southern City News that though no suicide note was discovered, his death shocked neighbours, especially those who knew him as an easy-going young man.

A member of the church, who decried the action of the deceased, said he (Kachi) had been sleeping in the church hall before deciding to kill himself without stating any reason.

The church member, also identified Kachi as a former mass servant, who was dedicated to many works concerning the church.

Another member of the church, who simply identified himself as Magnus, said the deceased, who was popularly known as Fabregas due to his ability to play football, was admired by other members of the church as a result of his dedication to duty.

According to Magnus, “Kachi was a hustling young man below 20 years and unmarried. Our youth leader has confirmed his death. He is no longer living at the address we usually know and nobody has come out to say exactly why the boy killed himself.”

Another story had it that Kachi might have committed suicide after the owner of the taxi he was driving to make ends meet, took back the vehicle from him.

Nkechi, a neighbour living around the Creek Road, said, “The boy was not married and had been sleeping in the church hall. The taxi he was driving was on hire purchase.

“I learnt the owner of the car has collected it. Maybe, he was not meeting up his condition of agreement with the owner. I think he took his life out of frustration,” she added.

However, several calls and a text message to the mobile phone of the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, were neither answered nor replied.
