Akinwunmi-Ambode

Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State on Tuesday said that his administration had earmarked N20 billion to revamp the health and education sectors in the state before December.

Speaking during an interactive session at the 2016-second-quarter-town-hall meeting in Badagry, Ambode said that his administration had commenced a comprehensive rehabilitation and upgrading of hospital facilities across the state.

“Modern equipment will be procured to facilitate treatment of patients and we will invest in capacity building of our medical staff.

“We intend to spend over N10 billion on our hospitals across the state before December this year.
“We will recruit and train medical professionals in areas of rare specialisation and special needs,” Ambode said.

The governor said another N10billion had been earmarked for the facelift of all primary and secondary schools across the state.

“We will upgrade the infrastructure in all our schools starting from this month of July.

“All our primary and secondary schools will be upgraded to create conducive learning environments for students and teachers.’’

Ambode said that his government would start recruiting 1,000 secondary school teachers across the state in the next two weeks.

He said that 1,300 teachers had been recruited for primary schools.

Ambode said that a technical and vocational school would be established in Badagry and its ground breaking would hold in September.

He said his administration would pay greater attention to issues concerning the elderly.

“Our priority is the provision of three elderly care centres across the three senatorial zones in the state.

“I urge the private sector for support and collaboration thereafter.

“We will sponsor bills to the House of Assembly which will make specific provisions for the elderly in our society and create a framework for care for the aged,” he said.

Ambode said that in the last quarter, the government spent N115.62 billion on capital projects.

He said that had led to the capital and recurrent ratios of 50:50 with the plan to improve these ratios to 58:42 as provided for in the 2016 Appropriation Law in the remaining half of the year.

He said that the overall budget performance during the period under review was 70 per cent from 63 per cent in 2015.

The governor said that his government remained committed to improving the economy of the state and the well-being of the residents.

Ambode implored residents of the state to protect all government properties located in their areas.
