Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Police Command, have arrested a 17-year-old boy, Damola, for allegedly terrorising motorists and commuters on some highways in the state.
The teenager was apprehended alongside one Omotosho Seyi, 19 and 23-year-old Olanrewaju Sunday, with their operational motorcycle and some weapons reportedly recovered.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the suspects were tracked down at Agidingbi, Ikeja, around 11.30pm on Tuesday.
Adejobi in a statement on Friday explained that the suspects fled on sighting some RRS men on patrol, who chased and arrested them.
He said the patrol was part of the police’s efforts to ensure hitch free Yuletide celebrations in the state.
He stated, “The operatives of the RRS during one of the command’s undercover operations around Ikeja area, arrested three suspected traffic robbers at Agidingbi, Ikeja. During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to have been terrorising and responsible for some traffic robberies and other crimes at Isheri, Ojodu, Berger, Motorways, Agidingbi, Ketu, Alapere and Ogudu.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the suspected armed robbers be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for proper investigation.”
Meanwhile, Adejobi said a joint team comprising RRS and other police units had been deployed in Ikorodu in response to the security challenges in the area, especially in the Dejuwogbo community where some suspected robbers threatened to strike from December 24 to December 26.
He added, “In order to be proactive and fortify security in Ikorodu and its environs following the speculations or threats of robbery attacks on the residents, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered the RRS Commander, CSP Saheed Egbeyemi, and other operational units, including Mobile Police Force, State Intelligence Bureau, CP Monitoring Unit, to relocate to Ikorodu.
“The operation also involves the Area Commander, Area N, Ijede and all the Divisional Police Officers and their operatives in Ikorodu. While felicitating with Lagosians on Christmas celebration, he appealed to the general public to abide by the laws of the land and observe COVID-19 preventive protocols during and beyond the seasons.”
