The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress says its achievements over the years have been drawing former opponents into its fold.
The state’s APC Chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale, added that Lagos party would continue to welcome defectors in order to build a stronger party and state.
Ajomale spoke on Saturday at the party’s secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja, while receiving 2,500 defectors said to be from the People’s Democratic Party, mainly from the Lagos East Senatorial District.
He said, “This defection is a clear indication of our party’s successes and achievements. We will continue to do everything to ensure that our manifestos are fully implemented.
“We expect that those who just joined us will add value to the party and consolidate APC’s electoral successes in their various wards, local government areas and constituencies.”
While welcoming the defectors along with other APC leaders in the state, the senator representing the Lagos East Senatorial District, Gbenga Ashafa, who was said to have influenced the defection, said, “We are happy that all of us at the Eti-Osa Local Government Areas are coming together to ensure the success of our party. Before 2019, all the opposition must come to the APC.”
Commending the leaders of the defectors – Chief Bode Oyedele, Yahaya Dosumu, Chief Bakare Akala – Ashafa described the defection of the former PDP chieftains as homecoming, saying their decision to join the ruling party would boost the party’s chance during elections.
Responding on behalf of others, Oyedele pledged to work with others to lift the APC and the state to the next height.
Other APC leaders that received the defectors included a former Deputy Governor of the state, Femi Pedro; a former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji; and a former Commissioner for Health, Dr Tola Kasali.
