He remembers the great opportunity he was given, his lowly beginning and the dizzy height he attained. He probably has forgotten what transpired in the five years while he was in charge. The period probably went like he was in a dream while he was surrounded by sycophants and the paraphernalia of office. Now he is back to reality.
As always, there is a time of reckoning. High office demands great responsibility. No doubt, he was reckless with power, especially in the run up to the elections. All that he did was not without inputs and encouragement from some people who, in his hindsight now, can be seen to be feathering their nests at the expense of his reputation and at the expense of the country. The country he now claims to have been good an generous to him.
Rather than cowering and behaving like a lily-livered punk, he should be a man. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands, he must own up to his mistakes, apologize to the nation for his shortcomings, cooperate fully with the in-coming administration and expose all those who misled him so that all the looted funds could be recovered with the minimum fuss or acrimony.
It would be easy for him to be forgiven. Everyone, except a few diehards, knows that he was not totally at fault. It is Obasanjo, who against all known decent principles forced him to contest in 2011, who should bear the greatest responsibility. It was he who promoted Jonathan to box way above his weight.
This is the only way open to him to save what is left of his image and dignity, not his present cheap appeal to sentiments. Doing otherwise, he cannot escape the long arms of the law, neither can his accomplices.

GEJ Should become clean, and support the incoming as he said.
