INEC declares election inconclusive in 4 FCT councils | TheCable

Abuja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared election in four area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) inconclusive.

The four area councils are Abuja Municipal, Kuje, Gwagwalada and Kwali.

INEC made the decision largely because the number of cancelled votes was more than the margin votes among the leading candidates.

However, the electoral body declared Abdulrahman Ajiya of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the chairmanship election in Abaji, and Musa Dikko of the same party winner of the chairmanship election in Bwari.

The election, which took place last Saturday, witnessed a low turnout of voters.

Sixty-two councillor seats were also up for contention, and the candidates were drawn from the 30 registered political parties.

Some of the candidates were secondary school certificate holders.

Although, INEC registered 1, 020, 799 persons for the election, only 646, 883 of them collected their permanent voter cards.
