Odion Ighalo, former Super Eagles striker, scored a goal and delivered an impressive performance as Manchester United needed extra time to defeat ten-man Norwich City 2-1 on Saturday.
The win means United have booked their 30th appearance at the semifinals of the prestigious tournament, the most by any club in the English FA Cup.
The 31-year-old striker, whose Man United’s loan deal was recently extended till the end of the resumed season, opened scoring in the 51st minute with a poacher’s strike.
The experienced, goal-sniffing centre forward reacted quickest to dispatch Juan Mata’s pass from six yards out to put Man United 1-0 ahead.
The goal is his fifth in four starts for the Red devils.
Norwich however equalized in the 75th minute through Todd Cantwell’s 25-yard strike. They were reduced to ten men minutes later following a challenge by the last Norwich defender on Ighalo as he was about to run clean on goal.
Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood nearly won the game in added time of regular period but were both denied by a double save from Norwich goalkeeper to force extra time.
Ighalo had a say in the decisive goal as Harry Maguire pounced on the loose ball to score the winner.
Ighalo collected Pogba’s through pass and put in a low shot which was saved, but Maguire was on hand to score the goal win the match for Man United.
