The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on North East Initiatives (PCNI), General Theophilius Yakubu Danjuma (retd) and former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd) held secret meeting which insiders said bothered on some of the security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria at the Hill T0p Mansion of the latter in Minna, Niger State.
Saturday Tribune learnt that at the secret meeting which allegedly lasted for about four hours on Thursday, that their discussion may not be unconnected with recent developments in part of the country and the upcoming general elections next year, which has no doubt brought about a lot of heat in the polity.
It was further gathered that the recent Boko Haram resurgence in the northeastern part of the country, farmers/herdsmen clashes resulting into numerous killings in Taraba, Benue, Plateau and other states especially in the north-central geopolitical zone of the country, in addition to the recent abduction of 110 Dapchi school girls in Yobe State, may have prompted the two Generals to meet and deliberate on the way forward for the country, as government seems to be looking for a way out of the thorny situations.
A top source who was privy to the discussions at the meeting but who pleaded for anonymity yesterday in a chat with our reporter in Minna, disclosed that both Generals Danjuma and Babangida met for about four hours at the private meeting.which was said to have lasted till late in the evening.
“This is not the first time that the duo would be meeting to proffer solution to Nigeria’s security situation, as advice from them could be crucial in resolving the unstable developments in the polity,” said the source.
