Aurelien Tchouameni, Real Madrid midfielder, says he began listening to the music of Davido, the Afrobeats star, when he was 10.
Tchouameni spoke in a chat with Davido on The Bridge show.
The 24-year-old football star, who was born in France to parents of Cameroonian descent, said the first Davido’s song he heard was ‘Back When’.
“Back in the day, when I was 10 years old, I used to listen to this guy [Davido]. Yeah, when I was ten. It has been a while. The first song that I listened to was ‘Back When’,” Tchouameni said.
‘Back When’ was Davido’s first-ever single, released on May 7, 2011. The track featured Naeto C, the Nigerian rapper, and was the lead song on Davido’s debut album, Omo Baba Olowo (OBO).
Tchouameni also described Davido as his “favourite Afrobeats artiste”.
On his part, Davido, who turned 31 last year, said he was 17 years old when he recorded ‘Back When’.
“I started young, though. I was very young when I released some of my hit songs. I am 31 now. I was 17 when I released ‘Back When,’” the Afrobeats star said.
Davido rose to prominence with his 2012 hit ‘Dami Duro’.
He released ‘Timeless’, his fourth studio album, in March 2023.
The singer recently received his first-ever Grammy nomination in three categories for the album.
