Labaran Maku, former minister of information, says he placed his life at risk in the quest to ensure the return of democracy. In series of messages on his Twitter handle, Maku, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Nassarawa state governorship election, said he has made a lot of sacrifice for the country.
He expressed concerns over developments in Nasarawa, alleging that “electoral crime” was committed during the election.

Maku
“I fought for this democracy under the military regime with the likes of Chima Ubani, Beko Ransome Kuti, Baguada Kaltho,”

he wrote.
“I have been fighting for civil rights and democracy right from my days as a student in university. I was one of the student leaders in this country that stuck out his neck and risked my life to fight for this democracy.
“It is sad for me to say that having fought for this democracy, a clique in Nasarawa state wants to steal the mandate freely given to me. “I won elections in 8 out of the 13LGAs because people were tired of the bad governance and rising insecurity in Nassarawa state.
“I am a detribalised and patriotic Nigerian who wants the country to be ran on the basis of equity and justice. Let the best people whom the people want be given the opportunity to govern. “I have lived and worked in a every part of Nigeria. I believe in one Nigeria and not one divided along ethnic and religious lines.
“Our democracy must be such that no Nigerian shall be prevented from assuming leadership position when people have given their mandate.”
