The National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress, Gani Adams, on Wednesday denied receiving N1.6billion from President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the just concluded general elections.
Mr. Adams refuted the allegation in a press statement.
Mr. Adams also declared the former Oyo State Publicity Secretary of the congress, Adesina Akinpelu, a persona-non-grata, adding that Mr. Akinpelu had no constitutional right to speak on behalf of the body and should be ignored.
“It is indeed ridiculous for any right-thinking person to claim or believe that the president would give the sum of N1.6billion to an individual,” the statement said. “Otunba Gani Adams denies the receipt of the sum of N1.6billion from either President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan or any other individual in this regards.
“It must also be noted that Otunba Gani Adams does not have direct access to the monies of Oodua People’s Congress. The organization has a very open and credible accounting mechanism for all its activities. Otunba Gani Adams, as a notable Yoruba leader, has risen above the mundane false allegations.”
On Mr. Akinpelu, former publicity secretary of the OPC in Oyo State, who called for Mr. Adams resignation, the statement said Mr. Akinpelu cannot speak for OPC.
