On October 20, 2020, brave youths converged on the Lekki Tollgate, Lagos, to protest against police brutality, bad governance and poverty. The protests were believed to have been met with violence. I, along with those in the Diaspora would shout for the rights of our brothers and sisters at home as our generation, the future of our nation, would refuse to keep quiet. “Who gave the order?” would be just as significant as the question “Why?” as the picture of our blood soaked flag made rounds throughout the media. The resilience and courage of such a generation (Soro Soke) to say “No more” gave me the inspiration to commence the Chris Emejuru Foundation this year ending with the goal of reducing poverty and our sufferings through health and education projects, food (Nutrition), access to clean drinking water, business opportunities, and solar-powered electricity.
I refuse to give up. We refuse to give up. Inspiration that would lead me to Finance and Executive Produce a 2022 feature film project to shed light on happenings from the aftermath of #End SARS. And finally, along with other projects committed, I decided to write a book titled “A Pledge for the Establishment of a Sustainable Future,” which is a vision I have of Nigeria (Africa) prospering in a 21st century global world.
On this day, we honour those who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice as we determine our future step by step, day by day.
