FG Set To Launch E-Border Patrol, Says Immigration Boss

Federal Government is set to launch e-border patrol across all its land borders to checkmate issue of illegal immigrants and other criminal activities in the country.

The Comprotoller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede stated this while addressing the newly built sectariat of the agency in Sokoto.

Babandede explained that the introduction of the e-border method of patrol when implemented will help in curtail illegal immigrants and other criminal activities in the country.

He further disclosed that the agency has approved Illela land border in Sokoto as a pilot border in the implementation of the e-border surveillance.

Babandede also assured that part of the innovation bring on board by his administration is the timely issuance and renewal of passport.

He said, “passport issuance I can assure you will not be more than six weeks henceforth while its renewal will not last more than 3 weeks based on our latest arrangements.”

He however tasked officers of the agency to do away with corrupt practices especially at the border post as well as passport offices.

Earlier in his remarks, the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, commends the Comprotoller General of Immigration for his foresight and having a conducive secretariat for members of staff of the agency in the state.

While applauding President Buhari-led administration for it’s unflinching support to the agency, he expressed his appreciation for the choice of Illela border to pilot the introduction of e-border in the country.
