The Ogun gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2023 elections, Oladipupo Adebutu, has described late General Oladipupo Diya as an illustrious and courageous, administrator and a brave military officer who served the nation diligently.
Adebutu said this in a condolence message to Diya family and Nigerians on the demise of the military officer which occurred at the early hours of Sunday, 26th March, 2023 at the age of 79.
In the message issued on Sunday by the Media Director of his Campaign Organisation, Afolabi Orekoya, Adebutu extolled the great virtues of the former Chief of General Staff and Chief of Defence Staff who was also former Military Governor of Ogun State between 1984 and 1985.
“His commitment to the development of Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole shall not be forgotten as they are indelible in the hearts of the people,” Adebutu said in the message.
While thanking God for the fulfilled life lived by General Diya, Adebutu enjoins the family, friends and associates to take solace in the fact that he left good legacies.
He also prayed for the repose of his soul and fortitude for the family, friends and associates to bear the irreparable loss.
The late General Diya attended the US Army School of Infantry, the Command and Staff College, Jaji (1980–1981) and the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru.
While serving in the military, he studied law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained an LLB degree, and then at the Nigerian Law School, where he was called to bar as Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
He held other top military posts like GOC, 82 Division and finally the Chief of General Staff (military Vice President) to Gen Sani Abacha.
