Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, January 14, received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after winning the state governorship election, The Nation reports.

The governor was issued with the certificate by INEC at the commission’s office in Yenagoa, the state capital amid jubilation from the party faithful, aides, youth leaders, women groups and members of the state House of Assembly.

Dignitaries on hand to witness the event include Chief of Staff to the governor, Chief Talford Ongolo, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Kombowei Benson.

Others are former acting governor Ebebi, Director-General, Restoration Campaign Organisation, Fred Agbedi and commissioners.

Dickson was declared winner of the poll by the INEC REC, after polling more votes to defeat rival, Chief Timpre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dickson won seven out of the eight local governments in the south-south state defeating Chief Timipre Sylva of the APC after a keenly contested election.

Merged with the result of the December 5, 2015 election, Dickson polled a total number of 134, 998 votes, while Sylva polled 86,852 votes.

However, Timipre Sylva, his main rival in the election and the candidate of the APC has said he would challenge the result of the election in court.

Sylva said INEC and the PDP worked in concert to rig the election in favour of the PDP adding that he had officially complained, prior to the election, that the present structure of INEC in the state would not conduct a credible election.
