Death Toll In Sri Lanka Bombings Rises To 290 By Jamilah Nasir

The death toll in the bomb attacks on churches and hotels across Sri Lanka has risen to 290.

The incident, which occurred on Easter Sunday, left several hundreds of people injured.

Worshippers were celebrating Easter at three churches in Negombo, Batticaloa and Colombo’s Kochchikade district when the bombers struck.

The eight points attacked are St. Anthony’s Shrine, Colombo St. Sebastian’s Church, Negombo Zion Church, Batticaloa Cinnamon Grand, Colombo Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo The Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo Near Dehiwala Zoo in Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia A house in Mahawila Gardens, Dematagoda.

The Sri Lankan police have arrested 24 people in connection with the attack.

Sri Lanka’s foreign ministry said that over 20 foreigners, including citizens of the United States, Britain, China, Japan and Portugal, were among those killed.

The government of the south Asian country has ordered a temporary blocking of social media platforms while preliminary investigation is still underway.
